Short Biography
Katharina Bahlsen is a portrait painter based in Hamburg. She works in large-format acrylics – intense colors, ornamental structures and layered surfaces that tell stories of human encounter rather than capturing likenesses. After fifteen years as a COO and management consultant, she found her way to painting – inspired by her mother, who always painted. Today she lives and works with her family in Hamburg and Mallorca.

Katharina Bahlsen paints against one-second scroll culture. Not as a statement – but because she believes every person is more than a photo, a post, a passing glance.
Her large-format acrylic works show encounters: how people touch each other, change each other, leave traces in each other. Every painting carries the topography of a person – fingerprints as maps from within, gold as a bearer of meaning, layered surfaces that make the invisible visible. Layer by layer. Because real depth takes time.
She found her way to painting after the birth of her first child. Leaving a career as a management consultant and COO, she sought a freedom of expression her previous world had lacked. Without formal training – inspired by Picasso, shaped by her painting mother – she began putting her encounters on canvas. Today the canvas is her profession.
Her works hang in private collections in Germany and Spain. She moves between her studio in Hamburg and Es Llombards in the south of Mallorca.
